Our overarching perspective is that mental ill-health can only be understood properly with reference to the social, emotional and physical context in which it arises. We have a particular interest in the social determinants of mental illness. We are mainly concerned with problems that affect deprived and marginalised people across the world. We are especially interested in research can have an impact on people’s lives, which means that we are as interested in public health measures as individual level intervention. Much of our work involves mixed (qualitative and quantitive) methods to address complex problems.
